Pride Men’s Hoop Falls to Salve Regina

MILTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Salve Regina University, 82-65, Friday night during the first day of the Autism Acceptance Classic hosted by Curry College at Katz Gymnasium.

Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) led the Pride with 21 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals as he shot 7-for-12 from the field, including 4-for-7 from behind the three-point line. Jamir Harvey (Robbins, Ill.) contributed 10 points off the bench as Regis shot 47.8 percent (22-for-46) from the field and 75 percent (12-for-16) from the free throw line.

Rau opened the scoring with a three-pointer, but Salve Regina scored the next five points and then put together an 11-2 scoring run to open a 16-7 advantage midway through the first half. An 8-2 scoring stretch by the Seahawks later in the half extended their lead to 17 points at 34-17, and Jojo Powers hit a three-pointer in the final seconds to give Salve Regina a 37-21 halftime lead.

The Pride scored the first eight points of the second half, featuring three-pointers from Zakaria Latifi (Holliston, Mass.) and Justin Evelyn (Uniondale, N.Y.), but the Seahawks quickly responded with a 12-3 scoring run to increase their lead back to 17 points at 49-32. The two teams basically traded points the rest of the way as Regis could not cut into its deficit until it was too late.

Salve Regina (2-1) shot 57.6 percent (34-for-59) from the field and 80 percent (12-for-15) from the free throw line. Miles Fiore led the Seahawks with 24 points on 11-for-15 field goal shooting, with Powers collecting 21 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the field. Declan Walmsley added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Regis College (0-3) will face SUNY Canton on the second day of the Curry College Autism Acceptance Classic Saturday, Nov. 18, starting at 1 p.m.
