Historic Night for Marc Trinidad in GNAC Tourney Quarterfinal
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y.) made history as seventh seed Regis College gave second seed Albertus Magnus a competitive battle, but the Pride were ultimately defeated by the Falcons, 99-89, Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball Tournament at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.

With 35 points on 15-for-23 field goal shooting, Trinidad broke the Regis single-game scoring record of 34 points set by Phil Alibrandi against Anna Maria Feb. 20, 2010. In addition, Trinidad finished his collegiate career with exactly 1,000 points, the sixth player in program history to reach that mark.

All five starters for the Pride scored in double figures as Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) secured a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Jalil Wilkerson (New Haven, Conn.) contributed to the offense with 16 points. Justin Evelyn (Uniondale, N.Y.) finished the night with 14 points while Cameron Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) added 12 points.

The first half went back and forth with neither team being able to gain a significant advantage. With just over 11 minutes remaining in the first half, Wilkerson drove to the hoop and scored off a pass from Evelyn. Wilkerson was fouled on the play and knocked down the free throw to give the Pride a six-point lead. Albertus Magnus was able to battle back, and the half ended in a 44-44 tie.

The stalemate continued into the second half until Davon Warner knocked down a three-pointer with 11:38 to go in the period which set off a significant scoring run for the Falcons. Wilkerson ended the run with a three-pointer of his own, leaving the Pride trailing, 81-62. Regis continued to battle, but was ultimately unable to overcome the deficit.

Albertus Magnus also had five players enjoying double-digit scoring performances, led by Warner with 22 points and Tyreek Perkins with 18 points. Falcons center Justice Washington finished the night with 12 points and 15 rebounds to earn the double-double, while Qualon Wilkes contributed 10 points and Kevin Crawford added 13 points coming off the bench.

Both teams shot well from the field with Regis going 37-for-74 (50 percent) while Albertus Magnus shot 30-for-62 (48.4 percent). Regis was also able to force 16 turnovers which turned into 21 additional points.

Regis College (13-13) concludes the season with the quarterfinal loss. Albertus Magnus (16-6) advances to the tournament semifinals and will host third seed Lasell University.
