Pride Men's Hoop Sees Rally Fall Short at Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Regis College was defeated by Albertus Magnus, 82-73, Thursday night in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's basketball game at the Cosgrove Marcus Messer Athletic Center.

Three Pride players scored in double digits with Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y. ) notching a double-double, leading the Pride with 24 points, 13 rebounds, and three blocks. Jalil Wilkerson (New Haven, Conn.) narrowly missed his own double-double, scoring 20 points and dishing out six assists while collecting eight rebounds and earning five steals. Cameron Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) finished with 11 points and five rebounds while Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) contributed seven points and eight rebounds.
 
Regis College took an early lead, 12-7, off consecutive layups from Trinidad. Albertus Magnus bounced back, going on a 26-0 run to take a 33-12 lead with 10:58 remaining in the first half. Trinidad ended the Pride scoring drought by hitting a pair of free throws. Back-to-back three-pointers from Wilkerson and Joshua Perez (Lynn, Mass.) allowed the Pride to make up some ground, finishing the first half down 49-38.
Regis battled back in the second half, eventually cutting its deficit to only two points, 57-55, on a made free throw by Wilkins with 11:40 remaining in regulation. Consecutive three-pointers from the Falcons' Davon Warner put Albertus Magnus up, 63-55, prompting a timeout from the Pride. Despite fighting back once again and pulling within three points at 72-69 with just over four minutes remaining, the Pride were ultimately unable to complete the comeback.
 
Warner led Albertus Magnus in scoring with 24 points and five rebounds. Terry Dawkins managed to grab 13 rebounds while contributing eight points. Rob Tindley came off the bench, scoring 10 points and adding six assists.
 
Regis shot 40.9 percent (27-for-66) from the field compared to 38.2 percent (26-for-68) field goal shooting from Albertus Magnus. The Pride forced 14 Falcon turnovers leading to 10 points.
 
Regis (10-11, 7-8 GNAC) next hosts Lasell Tuesday, Feb. 15, with tip-off set for 6:00 p.m.
