Pride Men's Hoop Comeback Attempt Comes Up Short

FRANKLIN, Mass. - Regis College was unable to complete a second half comeback against Dean College, losing to the Bulldogs, 64-61, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's basketball game at Pieri Gymnasium.

Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y.) led the Pride with a double-double, scoring 22 points and adding 11 rebounds along with four blocked shots and three steals. Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) was one rebound away from his own double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing nine rebounds. Joshua Perez (Lynn, Mass.) added 11 points with six rebounds while Cameron Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Perez and Wilkins hit consecutive three-pointers to start off the scoring for the Pride as the game got out to a quick start for both sides. With the score tied at 18-18, Dean began to pull away, finishing the half with a 14-point halftime lead over Regis.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 50-35 with 13:55 remaining in the contest. Consecutive layups for Trinidad started the comeback for the Pride, and a layup from Jalil Wilkerson (New Haven, Conn.) tied the contest at 54-54. The Pride would eventually take the lead, 61-55, with 2:09 remaining on the clock.

Dean was able to tie the score at 61-61 with 47 seconds remaining in regulation. Foul shots would end up deciding the contest as Dean's Nick Sampeck put the game out of reach with a pair of made free throws.

Traijan Powell led the Bulldogs in scoring with 18 points, plus he grabbed eight rebounds. Winston Bryan contributed 14 points and five rebounds while Dion Zhuta added 10 points.

Regis College (8-10, 5-7 GNAC) next travels to Paxton, Mass. to face off against Anna Maria Monday, Feb. 7, beginning at 5:00 p.m.
