Men's Basketball Falls at Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Regis College was unable to overcome a slow start as it was defeated by Elms, 92-69, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's basketball game at the Maguire Center.

Russell Rau (Fitchburg, Mass.) earned a double-double coming off the bench, leading the Pride with 18 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 10-for-10 from the free throw line, becoming the third player in program history to make at least 10 free throw attempts without a miss. Cameron Wilkins (Taunton, Mass.) shot 5-for-7 from the field as he scored 12 points, while Jalil Wilkerson (New Haven, Conn.) added 10 points.

Elms went on an 11-0 run to open up the game, capping it off with DJ Edelen knocking down a three-pointer to force a Regis timeout. Wilkins started the scoring for the Pride, knocking down a free throw and finishing a layup off a steal. However, after the deficit grew to 17 points at 28-11 with 9:51 remaining in the half, the Pride fought back and cut the scoring gap to just 10 points, ending the half down 44-34.

After Wilkins and Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y.) cut the deficit to 47-42 with consecutive layups at the start of the second half, Elms, led by Edelen, went on another scoring run to effectively put the game out of reach for the Pride.

Regis shot 24-of-61 (39.3 percent) from the field while Elms shot 30-of-60 (50 percent). Regis was able to force Elms into 14 turnovers which led to 20 points off turnovers.
