Men's Basketball Falls to Saint Joseph's (Me.)

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's basketball team dropped its fourth game in its last six on Tuesday night, as the Pride suffered a 73-58 defeat to Saint Joseph's College (Me.) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Higgins Court.

With the loss, the Pride falls to 11-11 on the season and 8-6 in the GNAC. The Monks improve to 14-8 and 9-4 in conference with the win.

The Pride jumped out to an early lead, on top 12-8 almost seven and a half minutes into the contest, but the Monks pulled away thanks to a 17-0 run over the span of 5:36 to take a 25-12 lead. Saint Joseph's junior Darian Berry (Rochester, N.H.) hit a pair of threes during the run, as well as a two-point jumper. Sophomore Shaun Wingfield (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) finally stopped the bleeding for the Pride, hitting a driving layup to end the Monk run.

The Monks' sharp shooting continued through the end of the half, as the team converted six triples in the period. Berry and freshman Jack Casale (Portland, Maine) each hit three threes to give the Monks a 40-28 advantage entering the break. Berry led all scorers with 15 in the half, while Casale and Wingfield each had 13 for their respective teams.

The second half was much more even than the first half, as the Pride could neither close the gap nor the Monks pull away until around five minutes left on the clock, when the Monks took their first 20 point lead of the game on a pair of free throws by sophomore Michael Bradley (Framingham, Mass.).

The Pride struggled at the free throw line on the evening, going just 6-for-17 from the charity stripe. The Monks, meanwhile, went 9-for-10 from the line.

Berry finished as the game's leading scorer, putting home 24 points in the winning effort. Casale finished with 17 points as SJC's only other player in double figures. Pride junior Shawn Wedderburn (Bronx, N.Y.) led the way for the Pride scoring 18 points on 9-for-10 shooting in the defeat. Wedderburn also led the Pride with eight rebounds.

Next up for the Pride, they'll play host to Emmanuel College at Higgins Court on Saturday afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. tip. The Monks play first place Albertus Magnus in their next trip to the floor, taking on the Falcons on the road at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
