Men's Basketball Drops Season Opener At Wheaton

NORTON, Mass.Jawaun Lewis (Jacksonville, Fla.) scored a team-high 10 points, Marc Trinidad (Bronx, N.Y.) added nine rebounds but it came in a losing effort as the Regis (Mass.) men's basketball team suffered a season-opening loss to Wheaton, Wednesday at Emerson Gymnasium.

Trinidad added eight rebounds to flirt with a double double but it couldn't overcome the Pride's 31 turnovers and the Lyons' scorching 50% shooting from the floor. For Wheaton (1-0), Liam Bruno led all players with 20 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the floor and a 5-for-7 performance from the line.

Regis (0-1) held an early 7-4 lead on buckets from Lewis and Shawn Wedderburn (Bronx, N.Y.). A cold spell would ensue though as Wheaton went on a 16-0 run over the next 4:33 to take a 20-7 lead. The advantage would swell to as many as 17 points as the Lyons carried a 39-22 lead into halftime.

The Pride picked up the intensity in the second half and played the Lyons nearly even, but would be unable to make a dent in lead as Wheaton cruised to the win.

Juvens Dalger (Oakland Park, Fla.) collected five rebounds and added three points with Tim Broom (Jacksonville, Fla.) adding five points and three rebounds.

Regis had the better of the Lyons on the glass with a 40-28 rebound advantage but was done in with Wheaton scoring 32 points of Pride turnovers.

The Pride return to action this weekend at the Babson Invitational. Regis faces Endicott Saturday, Nov. 18 at 3:00 p.m. then will face the winner of Babson and Worcester State on Sunday. Wheaton returns to the court on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. for their first game of the Wheaton Tip-Off Tournament against Rhode Island College.
