Men's Basketball Downed by Colby-Sawyer

WESTON, Mass. - Twelve different members of the Regis (Mass.) men's basketball team scored points on Thursday night, but the team came up short to Colby-Sawyer College, falling by a score of 79-54.

With the loss, the Pride falls to 4-7 on the season, while the Chargers improve to 5-7 and snap a three-game losing skid.

Colby-Sawyer's Jourdain Bell (Manchester, N.H.) led all players in the game with 31 points, which included six three-pointers. Bell's teammate, freshman Dana Bean (Franklin, N.H.) contributed a double-double for the Chargers, finishing the night with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

The Chargers got off to a blazing start offensively, hitting five three-pointers in the opening 3:46 to jump out to a quick 15-6 lead over the Pride. Regis responded with a quick 9-2 run to cut their deficit to two points, but with strong shooting continued from beyond the arc, Colby-Sawyer was able to pull away for the rest of the half. The Chargers went to the half with a lead of 47-28, while hitting 9-of-17 threes.

The second half saw the Pride get its bench involved, with non-starters scoring 25 of the 26 points in the frame. Regis continued to have no answer for Bell in the second half, as the sophomore scored 12 of his 31 in the period.

Regis senior Chris Leak Jr. (New Haven, Conn.) and freshman Shaun Wingfield (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) led the Pride with nine points each. Senior Sam Jean-Gilles (Melrose, Mass.) pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Pride. Jean-Gilles' three points on the evening leaves him just 14 points shy of 1,000 in his collegiate career.

Next up for the Pride, they will return to conference play when they host Newbury on Saturday afternoon. The Chargers will get a week off before they return to action for NAC action on the road against Castleton next Thursday.
