WESTON, Mass. – Regis College freshman forward Ademola Afonja (Staten Island, N.Y.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week in Men's Basketball it was announced on Monday afternoon.

Afonja started and played in one game for the Pride this week, During the 93-90 overtime setback to conference opponent Elms, Afonja led the Pride offense, dominating the low post with 18 points on 8-of-15 (53.3%) shooting. Afonja was also two rebounds shy of a double-double as the freshman big man corralled eight caroms. He also swatted three shots, matching a previous career-high. This is the second straight week and third time this season Afonja has earned rookie honors.

Regis returns to the hardwood tomorrow when they travel to Lesley University for an 8:00 p.m. NECC match-up.
