WESTON, Mass. – Regis College freshman forward Ademola Afonja (Staten Island, N.Y.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Week in Men's Basketball it was announced on Monday morning. On Tuesday afternoon, Afonja was awarded the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Rookie of the Week Award.

The athletic freshman came off the bench in three contests averaging a team-best 15.7 points and 8.7 rebounds. Against Oglethorpe in the Holiday Inn Express and Suites Tournament Championship Game, Afonja tallied a career-best 20 points on 9-of-14 (64.3%) shooting. He snagged a career-high 11 rebounds against Westfield State on Saturday while also scoring a team-best 19 points in what would be his second double-double of the season. This is the first time this season Afonja has received NECC and ECAC honors.

Regis returns to the hardwood on Wednesday evening when they welcome non-conference opponent UMass-Dartmouth to Higgins Court for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off with the Corsairs.
