LYONS HAND PRIDE SECOND STRAIGHT DEFEAT

NORTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's basketball team fell to Wheaton College 91-84 on Saturday afternoon. The setback, the Crimson and Gold's second in a row, dropped the team's record to 2-2 on the young campaign and the victory improves the Lyons record to 3-1 on the year.

Ryan Fogarty (Walpole, Mass.), Billy Battaglia (Simsbury, Conn.), Liam Bruno (Newton, Mass.) and Riley Tetreault (Walpole, Mass.) each finished with a team-high 14 points for Wheaton. Quinton Dale (Winthrop, Mass.) wasn't far behind, netting 13 points, while pulling down a game-high nine rebounds and coming up with four blocks and two steals. Timothy Berry (Sterling, Mass.) also concluded the game with 13 points for the Lyons, while pulling down seven boards.

Jeff Tagger Jr. (Brockton, Mass.) led all players with 18 points for Regis on a 7-of-13 performance from the floor. Chris Leak Jr. (New Haven, Conn.) netted 10 points for the Pride, while collecting a team-high six rebounds.

The first half saw a competitive back and forth with nine lead changes and the score tied on eight occasions. Adem Afonja (Staten Island, N.Y.) started the scoring at the 19:22 mark with a quick layup for the Pride. Wheaton responded with a three-pointer by Dale, sparking the back and forth. With the game tied at 41-41, Tetreault hit a three with 3:09 on the clock, handing the Lyons the lead for the remainder of the half.

Tagger opened the second half with a three-pointer for Regis, giving them the lead to start the second period. Back-to-back Berry free-throws handed the lead back to the Lyons. The two sides would trade control of the scoreboard a few more times before Wheaton opened up the contest.

After consecutive free-throws by Sam Jean-Gilles (Melrose, Mass.) broke a 63-63 deadlock in the Prides favor, the Lyons responded with an 8-0 run over the next three minutes. Dale handed the Lyons their largest lead of the contest, 84-73, with 2:13 remaining courtesy of a layup. The Pride would pull within five points a couple times down the stretch, but would not be able to get any closer.

Regis returns to action after Thanksgiving break when they welcome Colby College to Higgins Court for a 3:00 p.m. tip-off
