REGIS MAKES IT TWO STRAIGHT, DOWN SVC 72-43

BENNINGTON, Vt. – A healthy 49.2 percent shooting from the field carried a visiting Regis College men's basketball team over the hosting Southern Vermont College men's basketball team, 72-43, Thursday night in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action.

Four players reached double digits for the Pride, with junior captain Ryan Chambers (Abington, Mass.) leading all players with 18 on the night.

Regis took a 15-7 lead about midway through the first half, but Southern Vermont would not be deterred as freshman Evan Thompson (Rossford, Ohio) knocked down a jump shot and senior captain Taeshon Johnson (Charlotte, N.C.) added a free throw to make it 15-10. A couple Pride layups put them up by nine, however four-straight points from Johnson during a 7-0 run closed the gap to 19-17.

Chambers responded with a three-pointer, but the Mountaineers came right back with a jumper from sophomore captain Travis Severs (Bennington, Vt.) and the nontraditional three-point play from sophomore Tarvaris Jenkins (Chicago, Ill.) who converted the free throw after being fouled on a made 15 footer to even it at 22.

The tie would last just under a minute as Regis sophomore Mike McCloskey (Winter Springs, Fla.) hit one from behind the arc to spark a 9-0 run to end the half.

SVC grabbed the first two points of the second half before Regis came back with seven-straight to extend the lead to 38-24. A Severs three brought the Mountaineers to within 11, but that would be the closest they would get as Regis continued to convert on quality chances and run away with the 72-43 win.

Severs led the Mountaineers with 13 points while Johnson followed with 11 and a game-high four steals. Jenkins recorded a team-high eight rebounds on the night.

Sophomore guard Osanto Marc (Kissimmee, Fla.) had 13 for the Pride, while freshman Carlos Bermudez-Glean (Boston, Mass.) and Evin Matted (Hartford, Conn.) each finished with 10. McCloskey had a game-high nine rebounds off the bench for RC.

Regis returns to action on Saturday afternoon when the Pride travels to Becker College for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the Hawks.
