Field Hockey Victorious in Double Overtime

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Regis College defeated Elms College in double overtime, 2-1, in a tightly contested Great Northeast Athletic Conference field hockey game at Leary Field Saturday.

After trailing for the majority of the contest, the Pride managed to tie the score at 1-1 late in the game when Ava Costello (North Easton, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal in the 48th minute of play, eventually forcing the game into overtime.

After a scoreless first overtime period in which the Pride took three shots on goal, Sarah Juskiewicz (Gorham, Maine) scored the game-winner for Regis in the second overtime session, assisted on the play by Frankie Alley (Gardner, Mass.).

Elms struck first in the 25th minute of play when Victoria Accorsi scored off a pass from Hanna St. John to give the home team a 1-0 advantage, which they would hold for nearly 23 minutes of play.

Both goalies played the entirety of the match with Jocelyn White (Wilmington, Mass.) making 10 saves in the win for the Pride while Kaitlyn Lynes made 12 saves for the Blazers.

The Pride outshot Elms by a margin of 18-15 while Elms edged out Regis in terms of penalty corner opportunities, taking eight compared to five for Regis.

Regis College (3-6, 3-1 GNAC) continues conference play on Tuesday, Oct. 4, with a home matchup against Rivier beginning at 7:00 p.m.
