Field Hockey Battled GNAC Rival Lasell in League Opener

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team battled Lasell University throughout Saturday's contest and actually held the lead at halftime, but the Lasers struck quickly in the second half on their way to a 6-1 victory over the Pride in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup at Regis Stadium.

Despite Lasell taking all four shots recorded in the first quarter, the teams went into the second period in a scoreless tie. Just over five minutes into the frame, sophomore Ashley Monteiro (Atkinson, N.H.) was able to find the back of the net for her first career collegiate goal, giving the Pride a 1-0 lead they would hold into halftime.

Lasell (2-2, 1-0 GNAC) struck quickly in the second half, as Sheridan Blaha and Lily Stark scored 29 seconds apart to put the Lasers ahead for good. After assisting on Blaha's goal, Lennon would earn a tally of her own, followed by Johanna Snyder scoring her own goal and then helping on a goal by Lisa Ortiz with 32 seconds remaining in the third period to extend Lasell's lead to 5-1.

In the fourth period, on one of Lasell's many penalty corners, Sage Dodier entered the ball to Blaha, who quickly passed it to Lennon. Lennon connected on her second goal of the afternoon to complete the scoring for the Lasers.

Courtney Tello picked up the victory in net for the Lasers, making one save during the day, while Jocelyn White (Wilmington, Mass.) was credited with six saves in her collegiate debut as the Pride goalie. Monteiro led Regis with two shots, both of them on goal, while Lennon and Stark paced Lasell with six goals apiece.

Regis (0-1, 0-1 GNAC) makes the short trip to face Framingham State Wednesday, Sept. 15, starting at 7 p.m. before returning to Regis Stadium for a GNAC contest against Elms College next Saturday, Sept. 18, at 3 p.m.
