Field Hockey Picked To Finished 7th In GNAC Preseason Poll

WINTHROP, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) field hockey team was picked to finish seventh in its first ever Great Northeast Collegiate Conference Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's eight conference coaches.

The Pride won the 2016 New England Collegiate Conference title in the program's last season as a league member and now turns its attention to a hopeful GNAC title. Regis went 12-7 overall last season but 1-2 against GNAC opponents. Its lone win came against Anna Maria who was tabbed in the poll to finish sixth.

Saint Joseph's (Me.) was picked to defend its crown, picking up five of the eight first-place votes. Last season the Monks won the title for the first time before picking up a win in the NCAA opening round. Simmons (2) and Johnson & Wales (RI) (1) also picked up first-place votes.

Regis opens the season Friday, Sept. 1 against Western Connecticut State. Start time at Regis Stadium is set for 4:00 p.m.
