Pride Field Hockey Beats Becker 4-1
LEICESTER, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) field hockey got past Becker College on Saturday morning, beating the host Hawks 4-1. The Hawks of Becker drop to 3-13 and 3-3 in the NECC while the Pride of Regis improve to 7-6 with a 5-1 record in the conference standings, taking sole possession of second place.

The first goal came in the 19th minute when Regis sophomore forward Mackenzie Cattaruzza (Guilford, Conn.) launched a blistering shot from the top of the circle, finding the back of the net for her second goal of the year as the Pride went up 1-0. That score would hold up going into halftime.

Regis scored their second goal in the 53rd minute, when Cattaruzza scored her third goal of the season, giving the Pride the insurance goal up 2-0. In the 66th minute, freshman midfielder Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) scored the visitors' third goal to put them up 3-0.

Becker finally broke through in the 68th minute when the Hawks were awarded a penalty shot, taken and made by defender Amy Grenier (Westminster, Mass.) for her 11th goal of the season.

Regis sophomore midfielder Alycia LeConche (Simsbury, Conn.) scored the game's final goal off a corner as time expired.

Becker sophomore goalkeeper Elysabeth Jefferies (Lisbon Falls, Maine) finished with 11 saves, while Regis junior goalkeeper Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) ended her day with six stops. The Pride outshot the Hawks, 19-8.

Prior to the game, Becker recognized their departing seniors as part of Senior Day. Grenier and forward Lauren Kraemer (Groton, Mass.) have both brought their leadership, dedication and talent not only to the field hockey program but to the Becker community as a whole. Although their time on the playing field may soon be coming to an end, they will forever be a part of the Hawks family.

Becker is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Wheelock College for a 7:00 p.m. NECC game. Regis will host Bath Path College on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
