COUGARS CLIP PRIDE, 1-0 AT PRIDEFEST

WESTON, Mass. – Clark University defeated Regis College, 1-0, on Saturday morning in a non-conference field hockey matchup in Weston, Mass. The Cougars improve to 6-3 with the win, while Regis falls to 2-8.

Clark came out firing as they took the first six shots of the contest and earned a pair of penalty corners through the first 16 minutes of play. With 13:54 on the clock, the Cougars earned their third penalty corner of the day and made it count as Kellee Kosiorek (Enfield, N.H.) received a pass and fired the ball opposite post where Lauren Mackey (Dublin, N.H.) tipped the ball past the Regis keeper for the early 1-0 lead.

The Cougars tried to tack on an insurance goal later in the period, but Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) was up to the task, ending the opening half with 12 saves and keeping it a one goal game headed into the intermission.

Regis put some offense together to start the second stanza as Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.) fired a shot on goal that was saved by Clark's Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.). The Pride earned a penalty corner on the ensuing play, but could not find the back of the net as the score remained 1-0 in favor of the visitors with just over 30 minutes to play. Clark had another chance to go up by two scores when Talia Fish (Philadelphia, Pa.) tried to go opposite post at the 26 minute mark, but Kasey Slattery (Smithfield, R.I.) was there for a defensive save before the ball crossed the goal line.

The Pride's best opportunity of the game came with 18 minutes remaining when Laurie DeMars (Maynard, Mass.) had what appeared to be an open shot with Tinsman on the ground. DeMars fired the ball on net but Kellee Kosiorek made a defensive save of her own to preserve the one goal advantage. Regis had a pair of corner opportunities over the final eight-plus minutes, but could not get a shot on net as Clark held on for the 1-0 victory.

Clark outshot the Pride at a 19-4 clip and held a 9-5 advantage in penalty corners. Christine Tinsman picked up her sixth win of the season in net while making two saves. Raegan Heck turned away 14 shots on the day, allowing only the one goal.

Christine O'Toole led the Pride offense with a pair of shots, while Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) and Laurie DeMars each took one shot apiece.

Regis returns to action on Thursday night when the Pride travel to Rivier University for another non-league contest at 7:00 p.m. Clark goes for its fourth-straight win on Tuesday when the Cougars host Wheelock College at 7:00 p.m.
