PRIDE GRAB FIRST WIN IN OT THRILLER

WESTON, Mass. – A golden goal by senior forward Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.) in the ninth minute of overtime lifted the Regis College field hockey team to a 2-1 comeback win over visiting Colby-Sawyer College on Thursday evening at Regis Stadium. The win gives the Pride their first of the season, as they move to 1-6-0 on the year.

Freshman midfielder Allyson Mullen (Wilder, Vt.) put her squad up 1-0 in just the eighth minute of the game. Junior Alexa Comesanas (Germantown, N.Y.) took an outside shot that was initially saved by goalkeeper Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.), but Mullen got on the end of the rebound and placed the ball into the back of the net.

The Chargers (3-3-0) were all over Regis in the opening half, outshooting the Pride by an 11-3 margin. Laurie DeMars (Maynard, Mass.) recorded the lone shot on goal for Regis, but it proved to be an easy save for netminder Jodi Dumayne (Claremont, N.H.), as the Chargers went into halftime with the 1-0 lead.

Regis came out of the break with a vengeance, and nearly tied the game in the third minute of the second half. Junior Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) freed herself from the right corner and made a nice feed to classmate Becka Sarson (York, Maine), who turned and fired a shot from point blank range, but Dumayne was able to get a handle on it.

After knocking on the door all half, Regis finally capitalized with just under ten minutes remaining in regulation. There was a scramble in front of the Charger's net, where freshman Sam Anderson (Sandwich, Mass.) poked the ball over to DeMars, who then knocked it in for the 1-1 tie.

Both Heck and Dumayne came up huge for their teams in overtime. Heck made two back-to-back saves on Erika Leach (Barrington, N.H.) and Nykki Stritzinger (Bel Air, Md.) to preserve the tie in the 73rd minute. The Pride began to pick up the intensity and peppered four consecutive shots on goal, all of which Dumayne rejected.

Regis finally broke through at the 78:12 mark when O'Toole got herself behind the Chargers defense and walked in with a one-on-one opportunity, where she placed a low, hard shot that struck the back of the net for the win.

Heck and Dumayne each finished with nine saves apiece, while Colby-Sawyer held the slight edge in shots (17-16).

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday. Colby-Sawyer hosts Husson at 12:00 p.m. in their conference opener, while the Pride travel to take on Johnson & Wales (R.I.) at 11:00 a.m.
