FALCONS SOAR PAST PRIDE, 3-0

WESTON, Mass. – Led by senior Rebecca Bush's (Littleton, Mass.) two goal performance, Fitchburg State University handed Regis College a 3-0 loss on a cool Tuesday evening at Regis Stadium in non-conference field hockey action. With the loss, the Pride drop to 0-6 on the season, while the Falcons improve to 2-2 with the win.

The Pride had a good look on their first penalty corner of the game, as junior Becka Sarson (York, Maine) found the stick of senior midfielder Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass.). Burns ripped a shot from outside the circle, but she was denied by goalkeeper Lucy Holewa (Londonderry, N.H.).

Burns would take two more blistering shots in the opening half for some of the Pride's best scoring chances of the game, but both of her attempts trickled just wide of the right goal post.

After two unsuccessful penalty corners, the Falcons finally capitalized on their third of the night in the 28th minute. Kaitlyn Silva (W. Townsend, Mass.) made a pass to Amber Nunes (W. Wareham, Mass.), who touched the ball over to Bush. Bush blasted the ball from the top of the circle and found the left corner of the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Bush tacked on another goal with the clock winding down in the half. Freshman Stephanie Stearns (Mystic, Conn.) took a penalty corner and found Nunes at the top of the circle, who then laid the ball off to Bush. In similar fashion to her first goal, Bush took a hard shot from the outside that got past sophomore goalkeeper Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) for the 2-0 lead going into halftime.

The Falcons scored what proved to be the final goal of the night at the 56:26 mark. Silva took a cracker of a shot just outside the Regis goal, which deflected off the stick of a Pride player and found the inside of the net.

Despite some good buildups in the second half, the Crimson & Gold were unable to get on the board. Five different Regis players recorded shots on goal to pace the Pride offensively, including Burns, Sarson, Genesiz Gudiel (Lawrence, Mass.), Sam Anderson (Sandwich, Mass.), and Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.). Defensively, Heck finished with four saves on the night for Regis.

Holewa and sophomore Judith Valentin (Brockton, Mass.) split time between the pipes and combined for five saves for the Falcons, who will next host Bay Path on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

Regis will wrap up their three game home-stand as they host Colby-Sawyer at 6:00 p.m., also on Thursday.
