WHEATON DOWNS REGIS AFTER SECOND HALF SURGE

NORTON, Mass. – The Regis College field hockey team dropped a 6-0 decision on the road to Wheaton College in the opening of the Diane Nordin '80 Athletic Field on Friday night. Despite holding the Lyons scoreless in the opening frame, Wheaton went on to score six unanswered goals in the second half.

Regis sophomore goalkeeper Raegan Heck (Phillipston, Mass.) stopped a game-high seven shots, giving her 37 saves in three contests on the season. Wheaton senior goalkeeper Ellie Massengill (Amherst, Mass.) turned away three shots in the shutout.

Wheaton freshman forward Amelia Gage (Lebanon, N.H.) paced the offense with two goals, including the first-ever marker scored on Nordin Field at the 39:08 mark of the second half. Sophomore Kelsey Harris (Spencer, Mass.), junior Tracy McCann (Westerly, R.I.) and freshmen Michelle Trainor (Amesbury, Mass.) and Darci Bruce (Walpole, Mass.) all found the back of the net in the win.

Lyons' senior co-captain Emily Chick (Bangor, Maine) also dished out two assists in the game.

After Gage broke a scoreless tie at 39:08, Wheaton's offense deposited two goals into the back of the cage in 1:28 span to take a commanding 3-0 advantage. Harris finished on her second goal of the season on an assist by Bruce at 40:24 and McCann tapped home a feed moments later from freshman back Holly Norberg (Walpole, Mass.) at 41:52 for her team-leading third goal of the year.

Trainor had a shot from the left side of the circle redirected in by a Pride defender at 59:18 to make it 4-0, while Bruce knocked in a rebound at 64:28 and Gage rounded out the scoring off of an ensuing penalty corner and pass by Chick as time expired.

Senior forward Christine O'Toole (Boston, Mass.) and junior midfielder Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.) combined for the Pride's three shots on goal in the contest.

Wheaton (3-1) hosts Lasell College on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 4 p.m, while Regis (0-3) will next be in action when they travel to Simmons College on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 7:00 p.m.
