MITCHELL, MORRISON, AND PAPPAS TOP NCAA, AND TCCC DEFENSIVE CATEGORIES

Weston, Mass.---The Regis College women’s field hockey team has played well defensively all season. This strong defensive play has garnered the Pride top rankings in both NCAA and The Commonwealth Coast Conference statistical categories. Currently the Pride rank number one in the Commonwealth Coast Conference statistical categories of: team total saves, team saves per game, and total defensive saves.  Nationally the Pride rank third in the NCAA with (20) defensive saves on the season. The Pride’s (14.07) saves per game average ranks them fifth in the NCAA

Anchoring the Pride’s Defense in these statistical categories is freshman goalkeeper Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass. /Oakmont Regional).  Mitchell is currently ranked third in the nation for saves per game (13.93), and total saves on the season (209).  Mitchell stands atop TCCC defensive statistical categories in saves per game (13.93), and total saves on the season (209). Mitchell also respectively ranks sixth in total shutouts and seventh in shutouts per game in TCCC play.

The Pride’s top ten national and conference ranking in defensive saves (20) has been achieved by the hard word and determination of junior’s Chelsea Morrison (Windham, N.H./Salem) and Victoria Pappas (Niantic, Conn. /East Lyme). Morrison and Pappas currently rank 26th in the nation for total defensive saves on the season. In TCCC play the Pride rank first in defensive saves per game (1.33). Morrison and Pappas rank third in TCCC play with five total defensive saves on the season.

The Pride finishes up regular season play Saturday (Oct. 23) at Gordon College.  The game is set to start at 1:00 pm.
