REGIS COLLEGE ON THE PROWL FOR POSTSEASON APPEARANCE

REGIS COLLEGE ON THE PROWL FOR POSTSEASON APPEARANCE

WESTON, Mass.—Capturing its fourth win of the season in a 2-1 win in overtime over Wheelock College (Sept. 30), the Pride will look to capture its second conference win of the season when the team travels to Salve Regina (Oct. 5). A win over Anna Maria (Sept. 25) is Regis’ only conference win in two years.

Salve Regina (1-10, 0-4 TCCC) will be looking for its first The Commonwealth Coast Conference win. The Seahawks finished 2009 with an 8-11 overall record, and handed Regis College a 7-0 defeat. Salve Regina is producing just 16 scores this season, while its opponents have manufactured 51 goals against the Seahawks keeper Natalie Balletta.

Regis College (4-7, 1-2 TCCC) has scored an equal number of goals (16), but Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont Regional) has given up just 27 goals. The freshman keeper is first in saves within the conference, averaging 19.7 saves per game. She has the fifth best saves percentage (.843) in the conference.

Victoria Pappas (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) and Candance Ferry (Malden, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) are the programs leading scorers. Ferry holds the outright top spot with seven goals. Pappas has four goals for Regis College.

Ferry also leads the team in game-winning goals with two, Chelsea Morrison (Windham, N.H./Salem) and Pappas each have one.

This match-up should be interesting considering the change in team dynamic between the two schools. Salve, a team that has shutout Regis College in year’s past, will face a Regis team that has been quite active in the scoring circle.

Defeating Salve Regina will not only be uplifting, but also proves to the conference that Regis College is making a move towards the middle of pack. Currently in sixth, two wins, and a Western New England loss could have Regis in the fifth, possibly fourth spot. Either way the Pride could potentially be vying for a postseason spot.
