MORRISON SCORES GAME-WINNER IN OVERTIME

WESTON, Mass.—Chelsea Morrison (Windham, N.H./Salem) scored the game-winning goal for the Pride to lead Regis College (4-6, 1-2 TCCC) to a 2-1 defeat of Wheelock College (2-4) Thursday.

The two teams were evenly matched through much of the 70 minutes of regulation. Wheelock managed 12 shots to Regis’ eight. Eight different Wildcats registered shots, with Despina Savvoulides (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) taking a team-high three shots.

Savvoulides’ teammate, Kara Widdison (Greenfield, Mass./Greenfield), scored the Wildcats lone goal of the game at 24:17. Widdison would shoot against Regis’ keeper Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, Mass./Oakmont Regional) to score unassisted.

Mitchell had seven saves for the Pride. With Wheelock up one goal against Regis College, the Pride began a repeated attack offensively. Regis’ Meghan Robohm (North Easton, Mass./Oliver Ames) would pass the ball into the circle to Torie Pappas (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme). As Pappas collected the pass she took a swift shot towards the net scoring Regis’ tying goal at 25:08.

Regis had four different players attempt to score. Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass./Waltham), Candace Ferry (Malden, Mass./Bishop Fenwick), and Pappas each attempted at least two shots for the Pride.

Neither team would score again during regulation. Meredith Race (Marion, Mass./Old Rochester Regional) finished the first half for Wheelock with two saves, allowing one goal. Michelle Greene (Mansfield, Mass./Mansfield) finished the remainder of the game with three saves.

At the 81:22 mark, Christine O'Toole (Wareham, Mass./Wareham) took a mid-field pass headed towards Greene. As Greene left the box she would trip O'Toole as she was attempting to score. The foul would give way for Regis College to take a penalty stroke in the sudden death overtime.

Head coach Lisa LeVierge selected Morrison (Windham, N.H./Salem) to take the line to shoot the penalty stroke, and possibly win the game. Morrison placed her shot over Greene’s right shoulder for the goal and the game.

Regis College will head into its Homecoming game Saturday to face Becker College. Wheelock will face Daniel Webster (Oct. 2) at home at 3:00 p.m.
