PRIDE LOOK TO CAPTURE WIN AGAINST RIVIER

WESTON, Mass.—Regis College Field Hockey will face Rivier College (1-4) Tuesday night, which is the same night that the athletics department will hold its annual homecoming pep rally at 7:00 p.m. in the gym. Regis College (2-6, 1-4 TCCC) captured its second win of the season, and first conference victory Saturday by defeating Anna Maria College 2-1.

The AMCats netted the first goal in just less than two minutes. Christine O’Toole (Wareham, Mass.) scored first for the Pride in the 49th minute of the game. Junior Torie Pappas (Niantic, Conn.) scored the game-winner on an unassisted goal at 59:35. Pappas is tied for second in goals (2), just behind leading scorer Candace Ferry (Malden, Mass.) with four scores.

The Raiders and Pride are statistically identical teams, which will make its upcoming match-up one to watch. The two teams are taking less than 9.8 shots per game. Regis College ranks slightly higher in shots on goal percentage (.836) in 73 total attempts.

Rivier has had just 36 shots on goal this season. In its eight games thus far Regis College has 10 goals, while Rivier has put just three scores in net in its five games. Ferry should be a factor in whether the Pride sends Rivier home with a loss. She is the outright leader in goals this year, and has given the Pride a scoring boost that it has not had in recent years.

Defensively, Regis College has not given up more than eight points in a loss, while Rivier has given up double figures twice this season. Neither team has scored more than three goals in a game this season, and it is not too likely either team will find itself breaking scoring records in this match-up.

Regis and Rivier are two evenly matched programs with similar athletes, and neither team will hold an outright advantage come Tuesday. Look for this game to be low scoring, and the winning team to be the one that takes advantage of all opportunities.
