VICTORIA PAPPAS NETS GOAL FOR REGIS COLLEGE

Newton, MA— Sophomore Katelyn Fabri (Fairfield, CT) delivered the game-winning goal shortly after the halftime break as Lasell College field hockey defeated neighboring non-conference rivals Regis College, 3-1, at Grellier Field. Lasell moves to 3-4 with their second consecutive win, while Regis falls to 1-6 on the year.

Lasell did not allow Regis a shot in the first half, whereas the Lasers had 20 shots, including 11 shots-on-goal. The Pride’s goalie Morgan Mitchell (Ashburnham, MA) picked up 10 first period saves in a gallant effort, however, after 29 minutes of scoreless play, Tia Pratt (Oxford Hills, MA) connected for the Lasers one-nothing lead. Pratt sliced a missile into the back of the Pride’s net from the penalty spot at seven yards out, at 28:53.

After the teams retreated for the mid-game break, the Laser squad boosted their advantage at 40:50. Sarah Jannuzzi (Glen, NH) dished a short pass in front of the Pride’s net and Fabri tapped in what proved to be the game-winner. North Atlantic Conference co-rookie of the week Hillary Joseph (Cranford, NJ) added to Lasell’s advantage in the 49th minute.

Joseph tore down the turf on a breakaway from midfield, dodged through three Regis defenders, and challenged Mitchell to a one-on-one situation. The rookie forward slipped the shot past Mitchell for a three goal Lasell advantage.

With less than ten minutes left to play, Regis freshman Christine O’Toole (Wareham, MA) dribbled into the Lasers’ back field and crossed a pass in front of the net to junior Victoria Pappas (Niantic, CT) who released for the Pride’s sole mark.

The Lasers finished with a considerable 29-6 edge in shots, as well as a 9-6 advantage in penalty corners. Mitchell finished with 15 total saves in the losing effort while Laser goal keeper Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) saved two shots from entering the net in the win.
