Regis Track & Field Rewrites Record Book at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. - The Regis College track and field team set four school records and posted several personal best marks as it participated in the Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted Friday and Saturday by Tufts University at Gantcher Field House.

Friday night during the indoor pentathlon, Grace Micklon (Salem, N.H.) broke the school record in the high jump by clearing 1.44 meters (4' 8.75"), 0.02 meters higher than the previous mark first established seven years ago and tied by Micklon last week. Micklon would finish ninth in the final standings with 1,749, with Mikayla Francois (Walpole, Mass.) placing eighth with a total score of 2,076 points.

Over the two-day meet, Justin Thuotte (Lebanon, Conn.) competed in the heptathlon, landing in second place through the first five events thanks to collegiate-best marks of 7.51 seconds in the 60 meter dash, 9.42 meters (30' 11") in the shot put, and 10.54 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles. He would finish in fourth place with a school-record 3,631 points after clearing 3.20 meters (10' 6") in the pole vault and completing the 1000 meter run in 3:25.20.

Saturday, Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) finished second overall in the 3000 meter run with a school record time of 10:39.17, 12.67 seconds quicker than the previous mark. Kelley earned her second qualifying time for the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 24-25 after previously qualifying in the one mile run last week.

Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.), the previous holder of the 3000 meter run record, would quickly enter her name back in the school record book for indoor track and field, finishing third in the 5000 meter run with a time of 19:10.82, over 30 seconds faster than the previous standard established nine years ago.

Anastazia Copeland (West Hartford, Conn.) finished second in the weight throw with a top mark of 13.64 meters (44' 9"), 9/10ths of a meter further than her previous personal-best mark set at the Suffolk Relays in December. The mark was good enough to qualify Copeland for the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.

In the 600 meter run, Chris Margiatto (Suffield, Conn.) won his heat and finished fifth overall in 1:33.12, while AJ Corso (Broad Brook, Conn.) ended up in eighth place overall with a time of 1:35.15.
