The 2017-18 season saw two major changes for Regis Athletics, as the Pride entered the Great Northeast Athletic Conference under new Dean of Athletics Pam Roecker. Coming off an unprecedented six-year run in the New England Collegiate Conference that saw the Pride take home 32 conference titles, Regis looked to make a statement in its first year in the GNAC.

The Pride finished the year with two GNAC championship teams, and won six major end of the year awards. Additionally, 31 athletes earned GNAC All-Conference honors. The complete list of award winners from the 2017-18 season can be found below.

General Highlights

Coaches Angela Santa Fe (women's basketball) and John Ciarleglio (men's tennis) won their 100th career game with the Pride

John Ciarleglio was named USPTA New England Region Coach of the Year and, following the season, announced his retirement as coach of both the men's and women's tennis teams.

Brittany Stone became the women's basketball program's all-time leading scorer, finishing her career with 1,833 points.

The men's and women's track and field teams placed first in the inaugural GNAC Track and Field Championships for the first GNAC titles in school history.

Women's soccer topped Mount Ida on Sept. 6, 2017 to give Regis its first-ever GNAC win.

Men's swimming's Nick Rainville and coach James Sweeney were named GNAC swimmer and coach of the year, the first GNAC major awards in school history.

Regis concluded the season tied for third in the GNAC Men's Commissioner's Cup standings and sixth in the women's competition.

Field Hockey - Schedule and Results | Statistics

The Regis field hockey team saw its season come to a disappointing end in a win or go home Senior Day loss to Mount Ida on Oct. 21. The Pride finished its first season in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference with an overall record of 7-8 and 2-5 in the conference. Sophomore Ashley Chipman (Stoughton, Mass.) was the Pride's leading goal scorer on the season, tallying five goals, while junior Aineen Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) joined Chipman each with 10 points to be co-scoring leaders for the Pride. Senior Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) shined in goal for the Pride, recording four shutouts on the season and graduating with an all-time program record goals against average of 1.66 over her four-year career.

Women's Soccer - Schedule and Results | Statistics

The Regis women's soccer team finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 5-10-1. With a conference record of 3-7-1 in GNAC play, the Pride finished ninth in the conference, two points out of the final playoff spot. The women's soccer team won the first ever GNAC competition in the history of Regis athletics, defeating Mount Ida 3-0 on September 6 for the Pride's first win of the season. Freshman Payton Fitzgerald (Danielson, Conn.) finished the season as the Pride's leading scorer, tallying eight goals and two assists on the season for 18 points. The rookie earned a spot on the GNAC All-Conference Third Team, the Pride's lone all-conference selection.

Women's Volleyball - Schedule and Results | Statistics

The Pride women's volleyball team finished the season with an overall record of 12-16 and earned a #5 seed in the GNAC Tournament with a 7-5 record in its first season in the conference. The Pride travelled down the road to Lasell for its first GNAC postseason match on October 31, but were swept by the host Lasers to end its season. Sophomore Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.), the reigning New England Collegiate Conference Rookie of the Year, represented the Pride by being voted to the GNAC All-Conference Third Team with team-leading numbers in both kills (263) and digs (227). With 12 wins in 2017, the Pride surpassed double digits in wins for the sixth consecutive season, a new program record.

Men's Cross Country - Schedule and Results

A strong season for the men's cross country program culminated in an impressive showing in its first ever GNAC Championship appearance, finishing in third place on October 28. The Pride was tied for fifth in the GNAC Preseason Coaches Poll, but jumped up to third with solid performances up and down the lineup. Leading the way at the GNAC Championships was sophomore Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.), whose 12th place finish led the Pride and landed him a spot on the GNAC All-Conference Second Team. Freshman JJ Pedersen (Milford, Conn.) was the Pride's top overall runner on the season, leading all Pride runners in five of the team's seven competitions in 2017. Earning a spot in the Regis program record book in 2017 was Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.), who set the Pride's all-time junior class 8k record with a time of 28:33 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on September 16.

Women's Cross Country - Schedule and Results

Selected to finish eighth when the GNAC Preseason Coaches Poll was released in August, the Regis women's cross country team made a solid statement at the GNAC Championships on October 28 with a fourth place finish. Senior Molly Curtin (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore Maggie Mann (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) finished third and fourth overall in the race to earn spots on the First Team All-Conference, while a 12th place finish by sophomore Maddie Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) landed her a spot on the Second Team All-GNAC. Curtin and Mann both had record-breaking seasons, with Curtin setting the all-time program records in the 5k and 6k as well as the senior class 5k record, while Mann set the new sophomore class 5k record.

Men's Soccer - Schedule and Results | Statistics

The Regis men's soccer team finished the 2017 season with a record of 10-8-1 and was the only fall team to pick up a win in GNAC postseason play. The fifth-seeded Pride picked up the University's first ever GNAC Tournament win by defeating #4 Mount Ida 3-1 on the road on October 29, before falling to eventual GNAC champion Saint Joseph's (Me.) in the conference semifinals. Junior Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) entered the season already as the program's all-time leading goal scorer, but greatly extended his lead by tallying a program record 16 goals in 2017, giving him 36 in his three-year career. Junior Litchie Barbosa (Boston, Mass.) had a record-breaking season of his own in 2017, shattering the Regis program record for assists in a season with 12. Both Triana and Barbosa earned spots on the All-Conference Second Team for their efforts.

Men's Swimming & Diving - Schedule and Results

The Great Northeast Athletic Conference was nothing new for the Regis swimming & diving teams, and the Pride looked right at home at the GNAC Championships in early December. For the fourth consecutive season, the Pride finished the event in second place as a team in the event, led by senior Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.). The senior won all four of his individual races at the championships, setting GNAC records in three of the four wins. Rainville was joined by teammates Diego Colindres (Newton, Mass.), Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.), and Lawrence Reynolds (Hyde Park, Mass.) on the GNAC All-Conference teams as winners of events on the weekend.

Women's Swimming & Diving- Schedule and Results

The Pride women's swimming & diving team had an equally impressive showing at the GNAC Championships, finishing in second place to the champions from Simmons College. Four different Regis swimmers, as well as diver Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) found their way onto the GNAC All-Conference teams, finishing atop the podium at the Championships. Senior Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) was the GNAC Champion in the 100 yard backstroke and sophomore Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) in the 50 yard backstroke, as well as being legs of the 200 yard freestyle relay team that also took GNAC gold. Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) and Ashlyn DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.) rounded out the Pride's All-Conference honorees as the other members of the 200 yard freestyle relay team.

Men's Basketball - Schedule and Results | Statistics

The Pride men's basketball team finished fifth in the GNAC in its first season in the new conference, finishing with an overall record of 12-14 and GNAC record of 9-7. Regis would take to the road to play Lasel in the opening round of the GNAC tournament, but would fall 88-72 to the Lasers to wrap up its season. The Pride's signature win of the season came in a record-breaking 98-71 victory over Mount Ida on January 20. The 98 points scored in a regulation game as well as 66 points scored in the second half were both program records in the come-from-behind GNAC win. Junior Ademola Afonja (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned a spot on the GNAC's Second Team All-Conference, serving as the Pride's leading scorer (13.3) and rebounder (7.8) on the season.

Women's Basketball - Schedule and Results | Statistics

The five-time defending NECC champion Pride women's basketball team finished fourth in the conference in its first season in the GNAC, earning the right to host the first GNAC Tournament game ever held on the campus of Regis. The game would end it heartbreaking fashion however, as the visitors from Albertus Magnus erased a deficit in the fourth quarter to stun the Pride 51-49 in the quarterfinals. The Pride finished the season with an overall mark of 15-11 and 12-4 in the GNAC. It was a record-breaking season for senior Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.), who became the program's all-time leading scorer in a win over Mount Ida on January 27. Stone graduates not only as the Pride's all-time leading scorer with 1,833 points, but also as the program's career blocks (200) and field goal percentage (59.9) leader. Stone represented the Pride on the First Team All-GNAC, and received All-Region honors from the New England Women's Basketball Association and D3hoops.com.

Men's & Women's Track & Field - Schedule and Results (Men's) | Schedule and Results (Women's)

Five Pride student-athletes on the women's side and one on the men's side qualified for the New England Championships during the indoor season for Regis. Senior Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) had the Pride's strongest showing at the championships, placing sixth in the shot put. ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) and Daniel LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.), the lone member of the men's team to qualify for New Englands, both finished in the top 20 in the weight throw. Fatima St. Hilaire (Danvers, Mass.), Bernice Boateng (Danielson, Conn.), and Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) all also qualified for the New England Championships. When the outdoor season rolled around, the Pride kept on going, landing 12 New England Championship qualifiers on the year. The highlight of the year across all of Regis Athletics came on April 29, when the men's and women's teams both won the school's first ever GNAC Championships.

Men's Volleyball - Schedule and Results | Statistics

The Pride men's volleyball team finished its season with an overall record of 8-17 this year, going 3-11 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play. The Pride picked up a victory in its first ever GNAC contest, sweeping Mount Ida College on February 24. The team was unsuccessful in clinching a berth in the GNAC Tournament, but senior Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) earned a spot on the GNAC Third Team All-Conference. Krahl led the Pride with exactly 200 kills on the season.

Softball - Schedule and Results | Statistics

The softball team had a historic week in Myrtle Beach, S.C. over spring break, coming home with a 4-4 record, the best record on a spring break trip for Regis softball since a 5-3 trip in 2008. The team, led by new head coach Tara Petrocelli-McGloin, also nabbed its first win in a season opener since 2005 and first sweep of a doubleheader on spring break since 2008. Junior Kelsey Grimard (Pelham, N.H.) led the Pride offensively on the trip with a batting average of .548. The Pride faced tough competition upon returning home from the trip, going 3-21 in its first year in the GNAC to finish the season at 7-25. Sophomore Madi McLellan (Fremont, N.H.) was the Pride's leading pitcher on the season, going 5-12 with an ERA of 4.49 before going down with a season-ending injury.

Women's Lacrosse - Schedule and Results | Statistics

The Regis women's lacrosse program had a strong first season in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, finishing with an overall record of 13-5, while going 7-3 in the GNAC. The team earned a number four seed in the GNAC Tournament, hosting Saint Joseph's (Me.) in the GNAC Quarterfinals. The Pride picked up a 9-6 win to advance to the GNAC Semifinals, but fell to eventual champion Johnson & Wales. Senior Maresa Malcolm (Barrington, N.J.) was named the conference's Goalkeeper of the Year, while sophomore Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.), freshman Rachel Nadeau (Coventry, Conn.), and seniors Erin Loehner (Danvers, Mass.) and Linsay Bumila (Raynham, Mass.) all also picked up All-Conference honors.

Men's Lacrosse - Schedule and Results | Statistics

The Pride men's lacrosse team, which had won the last two New England Collegiate Conference championships, had a difficult first season in the GNAC. Its roster depleted by a handful of injuries, the Pride went 2-7 in conference and 4-11 overall, in its first year in the new league. The team's first GNAC win came in thrilling fashion, as senior Collin Spillane (Franklin, Mass.) scored in overtime on April 2 to lift the Pride to an 11-10 win over Emmanuel. Spillane was the Pride's leading scorer on the season with 31 goals and 10 assists for 41 points. Freshman Logan Bateman (Claremont, N.H.), who led the Pride with 68 groundballs on the year, was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team at season's end.

Women's Tennis - Schedule and Results | Statistics

The Pride women's tennis team had a stellar first season in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, finishing second in the conference rounding out the regular season with a GNAC record of 5-1. Along the way, the Pride picked up thrilling 5-4 wins over Suffolk and Simmons, both clinched in singles by sophomore Carly Scanlon (Canton, Mass.). Injuries plagued the Pride by the time GNAC Tournament play rolled around however, and the second-seeded Pride fell to #3 Simmons 5-1 to end its fall season. After going 5-2 in its spring non-conference season, the Pride finished its campaign with a record of 11-6. Scanlon, GNAC Rookie of the Year Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.), Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.), and Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) all earned GNAC All-Conference honors.

Men's Tennis - Schedule and Results | Statistics

Regis men's tennis had a stellar start to its 2017-2018 season, going 5-2 in its non-conference fall season. The team kept the ball rolling in Florida, where the team would go 4-1. On March 9, head coach John Ciarleglio grabbed his 100th career coaching win on the men's side to round out the Florida trip in style. The Pride went undefeated in conference play upon returning from Florida, earning the top seed in the GNAC's North Division. After defeating Johnson & Wales 5-1 in the GNAC semifinal to clinch the North, the Pride traveled to New Jersey to face Ramapo in the conference championship, but suffered a 5-1 defeat. The men's tennis team finished its season with an overall record of 14-6.
