Trio Receives NECC Weekly Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. - Athletes from three Regis (Mass.) spring sports teams have received weekly honors from the New England Collegiate Conference this week. Freshman Kerri Anselmo (Natick, Mass.) was named women's lacrosse Rookie of the Week, freshman Crystal Daly (North Grosvenordale, Conn.) softball Pitcher of the Week and junior Calvin Brault (Colchester, Vt.) has been named men's lacrosse Player of the Week.

In the women's lacrosse team's lone game last week, Anselmo netted three goals and three assists to lift the Pride to a 15-10 win on the road over Mass. Maritime. Through three games, Anselmo leads the Pride with six assists and 11 points, while ranking third with five goals. The award marks the second consecutive week a member of the Pride has been named Rookie of the Week, as midfielder Brooke Ross (Hanover, Mass.) received the honor last week.

On the softball team's Spring Break trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., Daly impressed in the circle for the Pride on her way to being named the NECC's first Pitcher of the Week of 2017. Daly threw 14.1 innings over two starts and three relief appearances, compiling an earned run average of 2.44. The freshman claimed her first collegiate win after allowing just one run and one hit over five innings, leading the Pride to a 7-1 victory over Lehman on Wednesday. Daly flirted with a no-no before allowing her first hit with two outs in the top of the fifth inning.

Brault netted five goals and an assist over two games last week to be named the conference's Player of the Week. In a furious fourth quarter comeback against Salem State on Thursday, Brault forced overtime with a tying goal with six seconds remaining, the Pride's third goal in 56 seconds. Through three games, Brault leads the Pride with seven goals scored and ranks second with eight points.

Both lacrosse teams return to action this week, as the men travel to Johnson & Wales on Wednesday and the women to Emmanuel on Thursday. The softball team is off until Wednesday, Mar. 22 when they travel to Simmons for a double header against the Sharks.
