PRIDE SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER VERSUS EASTERN NAZARENE

Quincy, MA.  April 6, 2010- The Eastern Nazarene Lions split a The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) doubleheader 1-2, 10-9 (both in extra innings) with the Regis Pride today at Mitchell/McCoy Field in Quincy, MA.  With the split, Eastern Nazarene goes to 3-16, 2-8 in the TCCC while Regis goes to 3-24, 1-7 in the TCCC.

The first game saw Kendra Abram (Acushnet, MA) face Jamie Block (Pembroke, MA) in a pitchers duel, and CF Amber Burns (Fall River, MA) kept the game tied early in the 1st with a putout from center field to home plate as catcher Laura Giberson placed the tag to keep the game tied at 0-0 and end the inning.

The first run of the game came in the 4th inning when Burns singled off the wall with two outs, driving home a run to take the lead, 1-0.  The following inning, Regis loaded the bases with no outs but only managed to scrape across one unearned run on a Lions fielding error.  With the bases loaded, ENC managed to avoid further damage getting out of the jam with the scored tied at 1-1.

Both teams were unable to drive the go ahead run in during regulation and proceeded to extra innings.  With a runner placed on second base in extra innings, Regis took the go-ahead run on a double by Caitlyn Luquet (Walnut Creek, CA) that scored Abram from second.

Game 2 saw the same starters take the mound, but the bats woke up in the second game with Regis taking the 1-0 lead on a double by Luquet that drove in Shannon Hurley (Billerica, MA).  The Pride struck again the same inning on an RBI out by Hope Benjamin (Rochester, MA) to make it 2-0.

Regis looked to be in position to sweep the series when they scored 2 runs in the top of the 8th to take the 9-7 lead.  They pushed the second-base runner across home, and then loaded the bases; scoring one more before the Lions ended the inning with pop fly’s and solid defensive work.

Caitlyn Luquet led the Pride with 3 hits on 5 at bats and 1 RBI.

Eastern Nazarene is away at Anna Maria College on Thursday, April 8th while Regis is at Fitchburg St.
