WILLIMANTIC, Conn. ­– The Regis College women's volleyball team was unable to take a set from Eastern Connecticut State in the Francis E Geissler Gymnasium on Tuesday evening falling to the Warriors 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-19).

Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) led the Pride with 10 kills and recorded 11 digs in the match, while Mica van der Meulen (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the squad with 16 digs.  Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) and Tori Ondris (Mineola, N.Y.) both picked up 13 assists apiece for the Pride.

The Pride scored the first point of the match before the Warriors collected the next four.  With Regis trailing 14-9 midway through the first set, Eastern Connecticut State went on a 6-0 run to go up by 11. Regis won seven of the next 10 points before the Warriors were able to score the final two points of the set.

In the second set the Warriors opened up on an 8-1 run, Regis then scored four of the next six points to bring themselves within five points. Down 18-11, the Pride scored five consecutive points to bring themselves within two. After the Warriors earned the next four points, the Pride and Warriors traded the last six points to close out the set.

The Warriors once again got off to a quick start in the third set, receiving three of their first four points off errors on the Pride. Regis then scored three quick points to bring the deficit to one before ECSU was able to extend their lead back to four.

Down 8-5 in the third set, Regis was able to score five points in a row taking a 10-8 lead.  ECSU came back with four points of their own to regain the lead. With the set tied at 14-14, the Warriors scored two points to go up 16-14 giving ECSU a lead that they did not relinquish.

Eastern Connecticut State (6-5, 1-0 LEC) will play Friday, Sept. 27 against UMass Boston in conference play.

Regis (3-10, 0-2 GNAC) will be in action on Saturday, Sept. 28 when they play both St. Joseph (Conn.) and Albertus as the two Connecticut schools visit Higgins Court for Regis Fest.
