Pride Takes Down Lesley, Earns Trimatch Split

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team rebounded from a loss to Wentworth to beat Lesley in four sets and earn a trimatch split Saturday on Higgins Court in Regis Fest non-conference action. Set scores were 25-19, 24-26, 25-16, 25-11.

Three Pride (7-11) players delivered double doubles on the afternoon. Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) drilled a team-high 12 kills to go along with 11 digs, Sydney Trusty (Durham, Conn.) had 10 kills and 11 digs, and Shay Faber (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) added 10 kills and 10 digs.

Kaylee Deluga (Dennis, Mass.) led the Lynx (5-11) in every way, posting match highs in both kills (15) and digs (14). Anni Abbruzzese (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) had eight kills and 10 digs with Cassidy Wygonik contributing five kills and 10 digs.

Faber and Haley Shulte (Fullerton, Calif.) recorded 21 and 20 assists, respectively for the Pride.

Regis had to rally to earn its set one win. Trailing 16-11 off a Wygonik ace, Trusty halted the Lesley momentum with a kill then won five straight points off her serve to give the Pride its first lead of the set. The team would trade points over the next few minutes before Lauren Butt's (Topsfield, Mass.) kill put the Pride up 21-18 and Regis won going away.

Seeking a two-set lead, Regis again attempted to rally but were not as fortunate. They did tie the score late however on four straight points capped by a Veasey kill, but the teams would trade points down the stretch before Deluga's kill lifted Lesley to a 26-24 win.

Set two proved to be just a bump in the road for the Pride who cruised to wins in sets three and four. Regis never trailed in set three and only did so when Lesley won the first point of the fourth set. The Pride pulled away midway through in set three and Caroline Fuentes delivered a flurry of aces to help the Pride clinch the match with a 10-0 run to close the fourth set.

Regis returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 4 hosting Mount Ida in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action with Lesley visiting Mitchell this Tuesday, Oct. 4.
