Women's Volleyball Upended by Texas-Tyler, UMHB

BELTON, Texas – The second and final day of the UHMB Invitational proved to be tough day for the Regis (Mass.) women's volleyball team who dropped another pair of matches, first to Texas-Tyler (25-10, 25-7, 25-9) then to Mary Hardin-Baylor (25-17, 25-7, 25-18).

The opening match versus UT-Tyler saw the Pride (0-4) unable to muster much attack, posting just 13 total kills and hitting at a -.182 clip. Rachel Bartels (Edinburg, Texas) and Nicole Connolly (San Mateo, Calif.) shared team-high honors each recording three kills. Crystina Lathrop (Houston, Texas) and Haley Schulte (Fullerton, Calif.) each notched five assists and Caroline Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) recorded a team-best 10 digs.

18 players saw action for the Patriots led by a match-high nine kills from Brianna Dressendorfer (Owasso, Okla.). Emily Robison (Lake Jackson, Texas) and Makenna Bartlet (Round Rock, Texas) each had eight kills with Reighanna Guzman (San Antonio, Texas) adding a match-best 14 assists.

The Pride closed the tournament later in the day with a second loss to host Mary Hardin-Baylor. Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) led Regis on this occasion with six kills to go along with two digs. Schulte added a team-high eight digs with Shay Faber (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) posting 10 assists.

Adrien Valdez (Pearland, Texas) and Sydney Stolz (College Station, Texas) did the damage for the Cru. Valdez delivered a match-high 13 kills on an efficient .532 clip while also adding six digs. Stolz had 10 kills with a .562 attack percentage.

The Pride continues its early-season tournament schedule, next taking part in the Ocean State Triumph for Camels Tournament hosted by Connecticut College. Regis opens with two matches Friday, Sept. 8 against Worcester State and Connecticut College. First serves are set for 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., respectively.
