Women’s Indoor Track & Field Squad Back in Action

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Regis College women's track and field team shook off the rust from a month's break from competition as it participated in the Reggie Poyau Memorial Invitational, hosted by Brandeis University Saturday at the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center.

Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) earned Regis' top placement of the day, finishing in fifth place overall in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:11.41. Maddie Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) also performed well in the event, ending up in eighth place after completing the distance in 11:32.31.

Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) led the Pride in the throwing events, finishing sixth in the shot put with a top mark of 10.56 meters (34' 7.75") and eighth in the weight throw with a top effort of 11.47 meters (37' 7.75"). Cooke notched both marks on her first attempt of each event's finals.

Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) posted a collegiate-best time of 8.59 seconds in the 60 meter dash, plus she finished 12th in the long jump, earning a mark of 4.50 meters (14' 9.25") on her third and final attempt. Fagundo also joined with Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.), Desiree Jones (Oceanside, Calif.), and Lizzy Melvin (Southington, Conn.) for a time of 5:05.81 in the 4x400 meter relay.

Earlier in the meet, Jones finished 10th in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:58.21, while Melvin completed the 800 meter run in 2:51.90. Erin Kelley finished just ahead of Melvin in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:51.32, plus she finished 14th in the one mile run with a mark of 6:06.40.

Regis College continues the indoor season next Saturday, Jan. 18, with a trip west to Northampton, Mass., for the Mary Grinaker Invitational, hosted by Smith College.
