Regis Track & Field Ready to Host GNAC Championships

HEAT SHEETS: Men | Women

WESTON, Mass. – For the second consecutive year, Regis College will host the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Outdoor Track and Field Championships, taking place Saturday, April 27, and Sunday, April 28, with both the men's and women's track and field teams aiming to defend the conference titles they won last year.

It will be a big meet, as both the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) and the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) will also hold their league championship meets at Regis College, creating an inter-conference combined championship. Each conference will crown its own champion in men's and women's track and field, plus the top scoring men's and women's teams overall will be named the Inter-Conference Champions.

For the Pride, the women were selected by the GNAC coaches in the pre-championship poll to repeat as champions, receiving five first-place votes and 34 points overall. League newcomer Colby-Sawyer finished second in the poll with 27 points, just ahead of Emmanuel with 24 points, including the other first-place vote. Saint Joseph's College ended up fourth with 22 points, followed by Suffolk with 12 points and Lasell with seven points.

In men's track and field, Colby-Sawyer received five first-place votes as it finished atop the poll with 33 points, followed by defending champion Regis with one first-place vote and 29 points overall. Saint Joseph's College ended up third in the poll with 24 points, ahead of Emmanuel with 20 points, Suffolk with 13 points, and Lasell with seven points.

Saturday, the meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with the women's hammer throw and the men's javelin throw. The action on the track is set to start at 6 p.m. with the women's 10,000 meter run, followed by the men's 10,000 meter run and the women's and men's 4x800-meter relays.

Sunday, the first event will take place on the track at 9:30 a.m. with the preliminaries of the women's 100 meter hurdles. The field events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the men's shot put, women's discus, men's long jump, women's triple jump, and women's pole vault.
