Another Qualifies, St. Hillaire Breaks Record Again

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College women's track and field team hosted the Regis Spring Classic meet Friday, which saw Liz Ksepka (Calais, Vt.) qualify for Division III New England Championships and Fatima St. Hilaire (Dorchester, Mass.) break her 100 meter dash school record.

In the shot put, three members of the Pride recorded points with Ksepka, Elliana Boebel (Bedford, Mass.), and Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) finishing in the top five.  Ksepka's throw of 11.45 meters met the qualifying standards for New Englands. Boebel threw for 10.65 meters and Cooke tossed for 10.59 meters.

In the long jump, St. Hilaire finished first in the event with a distance of 5.34 meters which was 0.5 meters ahead of the competition. Hannah Plamondon (Woonsocket, R.I.) would finish in 10th in the event.

The 100 meter dash saw Cassandra Froio (Tewkbury, Mass.) finish in third place with a time of 13.51.  St. Hilaire would post the best time in the preliminaries at 12.76 which once again broke the school record.

The discus saw Regis finish with the top two spots in the event.  Ksepka threw for 32.81 meters, 0.12 meters ahead of Cooke in second.  Boebel rounded out the Pride scorers with a toss of 27.06 meters, earning Regis another point. 

Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) finished first in the 1500 meter run with a time of 5:07.82, bringing in 10 points. Freshman Malaysia Cabral (Boston, Mass.) finished with the third best time in preliminaries of the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.39, qualifying for the finals. She would finish the finals seventh.

Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) finished in second place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.11 which was just under 1.5 seconds behind the leader. Fagundo would also place second in the 200 meter dash in 28.10 with Froio crossing the line behind her with a time of 28.42.

Regis finished in third place with 114 points, half a point behind Gordon College. Endicott finished as the leader with 120 points.

The Pride will compete in the Penman Relays at Southern New Hampshire University next Saturday, Apr. 13.
