Regis Track & Field Picks Up Three GNAC Weekly Honors

WINTHROP, Mass. – The Regis College track and field team opened its outdoor season this past Saturday at the Wesleyan Spring Classic, and, based on their performances at that meet, three members of the Pride received weekly awards from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, announced Monday by the league office.

Senior Liz Ksepka (Calais, Vt.) was named the Women's Athlete of the Week, while freshmen Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) and Nicholas Pastore (Norwood, Mass.) swept the Rookie of the Week honors.

Fighting cold temperatures and windy conditions, Ksepka posted a collegiate career-best mark of 36.03 meters (118' 2") in the hammer throw, finishing fifth in that event. She also finished third in both the shot put at 11.17 meters (36' 7.75") and in the discus throw at 32.24 meters (105' 9").

Fagundo continues to show improvement in her first year of collegiate track and field. Saturday, she finished 12th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.51 seconds, a collegiate best overall. She also finished eighth in the 400 meter run in 1:07.19, tied for her best placement this year at that distance.

Pastore led Regis in the sprint events over the weekend, finishing fourth in the 400 meter run with a time of 54.76 seconds, his best placement in that event so far this year. He also posted a time of 24.01 seconds to finish seventh in the 200 meter dash, just 2/100ths of a second off his best time of the year in that event.

Regis returns to action Saturday, March 30, for the Snowflake Classic, hosted by Tufts University at the Dussault Track & Field Complex in Medford, Mass. The Pride will then host the Regis Spring Classic Friday, April 5, starting at 2:30 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
