CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Regis College women's track and field team traveled to participate in the Gordon Kelly Invitational Saturday afternoon hosted by MIT, where once again a school record fell this year.
Liz Ksepka (Calais, Vt.) finished in fourth place in the weight throw, setting a new school record in the process with a toss of 14.44 meters. Elliana Boebel (Bedford, Mass.) would finish in eighth with a throw of 12.24 meters, and Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) would finish in ninth in the event.
Ksepka would also lead the way in the shot put with a distance of 11.59 meters, placing second in the field of 41 competitors. Boebel also placed in the top ten, finishing in seventh place at 10.26 meters. Cooke threw 9.83 meters to land in 12th place.
The Pride saw success in the 200 meter dash as they placed four runners in the top 15. Lourdes Jean-Louis (Haiti) led Regis, finishing in fifth with a time of 28.89 seconds. Cassandra Froio (Tewksbury, Mass.) would finish right behind her in sixth place at 28.94 seconds, followed by Emily Fagundo (Dover, N.H.) in seventh place with a new personal record at 29.04 seconds. Erin Sheehan (Pembroke, Mass.) would round out the top 15 with a time of 30.14 seconds.
The 400 meter dash would see three members of the Pride finish in the top 10. Froio would lead Regis this time, placing seventh with a time of 1:06.95, and Fagundo finished eighth with a time of 1:06.97, both times being personal records. Jean-Louis would finish in 1:07.20, placing ninth.
The Kelley sisters would each break a personal record on the day. Erin Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) would break her personal record in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:47.21. Ashleigh Kelley (Stoneham, Mass.) placed third in the mile, beating her previous record with a time of 5:33.21, missing out on the school record by 0.13 seconds.
The Pride will next be at the Bowdoin Invitational in Brunswick, Maine Saturday, Feb. 16.
