STRONG SHOWING FOR PRIDE AT TUFTS STAMPEDE

MEDFORD, Mass. - In their second-to-last meet of the indoor season, the Regis College track and field teams traveled to Tufts and competed in the Tufts Stampede this past weekend.

Sophomore Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) starred in two events by throwing a near personal best of 12.63m in the shot put and sprinting out to a 7.65 finish in the 60m dash. Also competing well in the 60m was Matthew Owens (Boston, Mass.), who took 21st out of 72 competitors after finishing the race in a time of 7.37. Owens's time of 23.67 in the 200m was good enough for 14th place out of 60 athletes.

Sprinters Chandler Davies (Hartford, Conn.), Joe Greco (Oxford, Conn.), and Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.), competed in the 400m event. Despite physical races, the trio managed finishes of 53.13, 54.37, and 54.66, respectively.

For the women's team, Anyah Hernandez (Brookline, Mass.) ran a season's best of 31.89 in the 200m, while teammate Santi Strickland (Holbrook, Mass.) had a strong performance of her own, running 28.73 and placing in the top half of all female sprinters. In the distance events, Regis was represented by Sarah Schow (Northborough, Mass.), who ran the 5000 meters in 22:11.

Regis will travel to Boston University this Friday and Saturday for the Valentine's Invitational, where the Pride hope to prolong their season by qualifying as many athletes as possible for the DIII New England Championship meet.
