BOSTON, Mass. - On a historic day the BU Track, where 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist Galen Rupp ran to break the American record in the mile, the Regis College track and field team continued to improve at the BU Terrier Invitational at Boston University. 

The two day event began with Tori Rapsis (Nashua, N.H.) vaulting well and again finishing just centimeters from the New England standard after she cleared 2.90m.

The strong performances continued when Matthew Owens (Boston, Mass.) and Carlos Romer (Boston, Mass.) further improved upon the 200m personal bests that they had run only a week earlier by putting up times of 23.41 and 25.19, respectively. Genardy Cenat also ran the 200 m, making his debut for the Crimson & Gold. The sophomore clocked in at a time of 27.83.

The Pride also had two performers in the 400m. Chandler Davies (Hartford, Conn.) ran a promising 52.05 in his first attempt at the event of the season, and Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.) finished with a season's best of 53.48. Finally, Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) threw 40-01.50 in the shot put.

Apart from the performances of the Regis athletes on the track and in the field, the highlight of the meet for the Pride was seeing Galen Rupp's attempt at running the American Record in the indoor mile. He came up just short, but still managed to cruise to an exhilarating 3:50.92.

The men and the women will be in action next week when they return to Medford, Mass. for a meet with Tufts University.
