PRIDE CONTINUE IMPROVEMENTS AT GBTC INVITATIONAL

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Regis College track and field team continued their indoor season this past Sunday with a stellar showing at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational at Harvard University. Strong performances and personal bests were present across all disciplines.

In the field events, Ray Grasso (Orange, Mass.) and Paul Gionfriddo (Burlington, Conn.) made the finals of the triple jump and shot put, respectively, while Tory Rapsis (Nashua, N.H.) vaulted 2.91 meters, a mere fourteen centimeters short of the Division III New England qualifying height.

Matt Owens (Boston, Mass.) also finds himself closing in on a New England standard. After running a personal best in the 60m dash and qualifying for the finals, he bested himself again in the finals, coming in at a time of 7.32, just three one hundredths of a second from the qualifier. Owens also went on to post a major personal best in the 200m where he ran 23.63.

Joining their teammate as having run personal bests in the 200m were Grasso (23.84), who also won his heat, Carlos Romer (Boston, Mass.) (25.29), Donaldo Joseph (Everett, Mass.) (26.24), and Alex Tran (Lawrence, Mass.) (26.41). Women's team member Stanti Strickland also blitzed the 200m distance running a season's best 27.99 and dominating her heat.

The distance events added to the haul of personal bests via the performances of Sarah Schow (Northborough, Mass.) and Jonathan Paul (Medford, Mass.) in the mile run. Schow clocked in at 6:23 and Jonathan lopped nearly ten seconds off of his previous record by running 5:17.

The squad returns to action on Friday and Saturday when they will be competing at the Terrier Classic on the fast track of Boston University.
