Pride Women’s Tennis Well-Represented in GNAC Postseason Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. – The Regis College women's tennis team earned several honors after finishing 9-3 in the fall, including 5-2 in league play, and advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament, as the Great Northeast Athletic Conference released the voting results of the coaches for the annual postseason awards Tuesday.

Sophomore Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) led the Pride by earning First Team All-GNAC honors in singles. Mogelnicki won all 10 singles matches she played during the fall, plus she had won the first set in both singles matches that went unfinished during the GNAC Tournament. Playing in the number three singles position, Mogelnicki needed to rally just once from losing the first set, defeating Sarah Mariski of Simmons Sept. 7 in three sets.

Two Regis players earned Second Team All-GNAC in singles, including senior Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.), her first all-conference honor since the 2016 fall campaign. Playing all but one match in the number two singles position, McCormack picked up seven victories to move into sixth place on Regis' all-time singles victories list with 38 career wins.

For the third straight year, Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) received conference recognition as she was also selected Second Team All-GNAC. Donovan, also a member of the GNAC All-Tournament Team, occupied the number one singles position throughout the season and collected seven victories. All of her wins came in straight sets, and she shut out her opponent in 10 of the 14 sets, including three contests with a double bagel (6-0, 6-0).

In addition, McCormack and Donovan earned Second Team All-GNAC accolades in doubles, the first time a Regis doubles team has been honored since the Pride joined the league in 2017. The veterans won eight contests in the number one position, including four 8-0 victories and three sets with an 8-1 score. McCormack is now tied for fourth in program history with 38 career doubles wins, while Donovan is sixth with 35 doubles victories over the past three years.

Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) was selected as Regis' representative on the GNAC Women's Tennis All-Sportsmanship Team. After joining the team last spring, Colby made a significant contribution to the success of the Pride during the fall, winning all four singles matches she played as well as posting a 10-1 record in doubles.

Yashu Yang of Colby-Sawyer College was named GNAC Player of the Year, while regular season champion Johnson & Wales was represented by GNAC Rookie of the Year Emily Hill and GNAC Coach of the Year Devin Kitterick. University of Saint Joseph received the GNAC Institutional Sportsmanship Award.

Regis College will continue the 2019-20 season in the spring, starting with a series of matches in Florida during Spring Break.
