Women’s Tennis Loses in Home Conference Contest

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Johnson & Wales University, 8-1, Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

Johnson & Wales (8-1, 5-0 GNAC) swept the doubles sets, posting 8-4 victories in the first and second doubles positions and an 8-3 win in the third doubles slot.

Claire Parry completed her match in the number one singles position in straight sets (6-1, 6-3). Gabriela Velazquez clinched the contest for the Wildcats with a straight-set victory in the number five position, losing only one game.

Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) picked up Regis' lone point of the afternoon, earning a straight-set victory over Kourtney Moore in the number three singles position after winning the second-set tiebreaker (6-3, 7-6 (7-3)). Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) won the first set, 6-1, over Drew Bobey in the number four singles position, but Bobey rallied to win the next two sets with identical 6-2 scores.

Regis (5-2, 3-2 GNAC) begins a busy week with a home match against Smith College Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the afternoon, with the exact time to be finalized in the next day or two. The Pride will then travel to face Clark Thursday, Oct. 3, at 4 p.m., and St. Joseph (Conn.) Saturday, Oct. 5, at 12 p.m.
