Women’s Tennis Earns Key Victory Over Colby-Sawyer

WESTON, Mass. – After winning two of three doubles sets, Regis College was able to prevail in five of six singles contests to complete a 7-2 victory over Colby-Sawyer College Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's tennis match at the Regis Tennis Courts.

Colby-Sawyer (1-6, 1-3 GNAC) earned the first point of the day at number one doubles, as Yashu Yang and Alexa Conlin won, 8-1. The Pride picked up the other two points in doubles, starting with the team of Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) and Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) winning at number two doubles, 8-4. Regis took the lead when the newly-formed doubles team of Ginger Boodakian (Burlington, Mass.) and Abby Hewett (Newton, Mass.) pulled out an 8-6 victory in the third position.

Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) collected Regis' first singles victory as she won in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) at the number five position. Yang won the match at number one singles to close the Charger deficit to one, but Colby quickly extended the Pride's lead back to two with a victory in straight sets at number six singles (6-3, 6-1).

Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) clinched the match for the Pride with a straight-set win at number two singles (6-3, 6-2). Lauren Mogelnicki also won in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) at number three singles, and Boodakian completed the Regis victory in the fourth position, splitting two sets and then winning on a super-tiebreaker, 10-8 (6-0, 4-6, 1-0).

Regis (4-1, 3-1 GNAC) heads to Harvard University in Cambridge to face Lesley University Tuesday, Sept. 24, starting at 5 p.m. The Pride will then host Johnson & Wales in another key GNAC contest as part of Regis Fest next Saturday, Sept. 28, beginning at 2 p.m.
