Women’s Tennis Falls in Close Conference Contest

QUINCY, Mass. – In a Great Northeast Athletic Conference women's tennis contest started on Saturday but halted until Monday due to rain, Eastern Nazarene College pulled out a 5-4 victory over Regis College at the ENC Tennis Courts.

Eastern Nazarene (3-0, 1-0 GNAC) won two of the three doubles sets Saturday. Regis' lone doubles win came at number three doubles as Kaitlyn Colby (Merrimac, Mass.) and Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) won their match, 8-3.

The singles matches began Saturday but were stopped in the first set when a significant rain shower passed through the area. The coaches agreed to resume play Monday, and Eastern Nazarene picked up a point at fifth singles due to an illness default.

Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) brought the Pride back within one point with a straight-set victory at number six singles (6-1, 6-1). The Lions picked up straight-set wins from Sharon Biondi at number one singles and Emily Ruttkowski at number two singles, with Ruttkowski's victory clinching the match for the home team.

Lauren Mogelnicki defeated Maria Busila in straight sets (6-4, 7-6 (4)) at number four singles. At number three singles, Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) won the first set, but was forced to play a deciding third set before prevailing (6-1, 5-7, 6-1).

Regis (2-1, 1-1 GNAC) hosts two GNAC matches this week, starting Wednesday, Sept. 18, against Suffolk University at 4:30 p.m. The Pride then welcome Colby-Sawyer for a match Saturday, Sept. 21, beginning at 12 p.m.
