Despite the loss, Regis still clinched a first round home match in the 2018 GNAC Tournament, as the fourth-seeded Pride will face fifth seed Suffolk Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Regis Tennis Center beginning at 4:30 p.m. Johnson & Wales clinched the third seed with the victory and will host sixth seed Simmons Wednesday, with the two first round winners joining top seed Colby-Sawyer and second seed Eastern Nazarene for the semifinals next Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Winchester Indoor Tennis Center in Winchester, Mass.

The duo of Kaeleigh FitzPatrick (South Windsor, Conn.) and Lauren Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) won their match at third doubles, 8-5, to give the Pride their first point. Regis took a 2-1 lead when Carly Donovan (Harwich, Mass.) and Katelyn Mogelnicki (Wethersfield, Conn.) prevailed in their doubles set, 9-8, winning the tiebreaker 7-2.

Johnson & Wales (9-4, 5-2 GNAC) went back on top thanks to singles victories in the first, fifth, and sixth positions. Regis pulled to within one at 4-3 when Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) completed her straight-set victory at number two singles (6-2, 6-3).

In the third singles position, Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) won the first set, but her opponent Delaney Macchirole rallied to take the next two sets to win the contest that would clinch the match for the Wildcats (5-7, 6-1, 6-0). Katelyn Mogelnicki came back from dropping the first set to win her match at number four singles in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-4).
