CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) women's tennis team outlasted Lesley University in a grueling, marathon regular season finale tonight 6-3 in New England Collegiate Conference play at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The loss drops the Lynx to 7-4 on the season and 4-2 in NECC action while the Pride improves to 8-1 overall and a perfect 6-0 in the conference.

Regis will play as the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NECC Tournament while Lesley has earned the No. 2 seed. Postseason play will kick off on Saturday with Regis hosting fourth-seeded Bay Path University and Lesley welcoming third-seeded Becker College.

Prior to the start of the match, the Lynx honored seniors Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.), Carlyn Barker (Temecula, Calif.), and Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) for all of their contributions to the program throughout their careers.

Regis won two of three doubles matches before claiming four of six matches in singles play to earn the 6-3 victory.

In the top doubles, flight Regis senior Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and freshman Ariana McCormack (Worcester, Mass.) downed Lesley juniors Caroline Kiddie (Scituate, Mass.) and Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) 8-3. The Pride pulled a 2-0 match lead as senior Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and junior Sarah Kanarkiewicz (Peabody, Mass.) staved off a comeback by Goggin and sophomore Jessica Russo (Watertown, Mass.) to down the Lynx duo 8-5.

The Lynx got on the board in second doubles when Barker and freshman Maddie Abbott (Portland, Maine) outlasted Pride sophomore Katasha Jarvis (Mt. Vernon, N.Y.) and freshman Carly Scanlon (Canton, Mass.) 9-7.

In singles action, Kiddie raced past Regis senior Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets at the top flight. Regis struck back in the fourth singles match as Jarvis hung on to top Pereira 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Regis would pull ahead in the match 4-2 when McCormack came back after dropping the first set to defeat Barker 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 in third singles. Abbott pulled the Lynx back to within as she defeated Lord in a grueling, back-and-forth No. 2 singles match

The Pride, however, would seal the match as Scanlon defeated senior Frances De Leon (Murrieta, Calif.) 6-4, 6-1 in fifth singles. Rice would wrap up the evening with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over freshman Sara Stanton (Manchester, Mass.).
