REGIS POWERS PAST BECKER IN NECC OPENER

LEICESTER, Mass. - Becker College was blanked by Regis College 9-0 in New England Collegiate Conference women's tennis action Tuesday afternoon. The win lifts the Pride record to 2-0 (1-0 NECC), while the Hawks sink to 1-3 (0-1 NECC).

In top doubles action, Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) downed Jennifer Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Jacqueline Andrade (Somerset, Mass.), 8-2. Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Emily Morgenbesser (Bay Port, N.Y.) made quick work of Kerry Saltvick (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Chenylle Mercado (Tyngsborough, Mass.) in number two doubles, 8-0. The Pride completed the sweep of doubles when Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) and Erika Palmer (Southborough, Mass.) bested Dana Mahan (Manville, R.I.) and Mary Mketiah (Lawrenceville, N.J.), 8-2.

In top singles action, Emily Morgenbesser scratched her way to a 6-3, 7-5 win over Becker's Jennifer Lord. Morgenbesser broke Lord's serve to go up 6-5 and then grabbed the deciding point in the second set to post her first collegiate victory.

Emily Rice captured number two singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Jacqueline Andrade. Jessie Lord breezed through number three singles play, defeating Kerry Saltvick in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. In number three singles action, Erika Palmer powered past Livia Smith, 6-0, 6-2. Jewel Medeiros and Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) earned clean victories for Regis in the five and six singles sets.

Regis will host Johnson and Wales University on Thursday, September 11 at 5:00 p.m.
