DOUBLES PLAY LEADS PRIDE TO FIRST WIN OF 2014

WESTON, Mass. - Regis College swept all three doubles matches and followed that up with wins in five of the six singles matches to pick up an 8-1 win over Eastern Nazarene College on Thursday night in non-conference tennis action in Weston, Mass. The Pride move to 1-0 on the year, while the Lions fall to 1-1.

The team captain duo of Jessie Lord (Fall River, Mass.) and Jewel Medeiros (Rochester, Mass.) posted an 8-4 win over Lindsey Steelman (Darlington, Md.) and Tressa Burrello (Herkimer, N.Y.). Emily Rice (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Emily Morgenbesser (Bayport, N.Y.) added an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Kendall Kolb (Plymouth, Mass.) and Erica Murphy (Portsmouth, N.H.) picked up an 8-1 win over Julie Sutton (Middletown, Conn.) and Hannah Lariviere (Biddeford, Maine).

"I was very proud of our doubles teams tonight," said Coach Ciarleglio. "All of the hard work put in during the preseason and in our final practices this week really showed as we were able to grab an early 3-0 lead."

In singles play, Medeiros picked up the first win of the night with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lariviere at No. 5 singles. Freshman Amy DiPace (Cambridge, Mass.) sealed the win for Regis with her first collegiate victory in the No. 6 singles spot, posting a 6-0, 6-2 win over Bethany Mohnkern (Petersburg, Pa.). Jessie Lord added a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, and Erica Murphy won her No. 4 singles matchup over Alecia Tubbbs (Rochester, N.Y.), 6-0, 6-2.

ENC picked up their first point of the match at the No. 1 singles spot as Lindsey Steelman defeated Emily Morgenbesser, 6-2, 6-4. At No. 2 singles, Emily Rice fought off a strong push in the second set from Tressa Burrello. Burrello forced the game into a tiebreak, and Rice was able to win 7-5 and secure the 8-1 victory for the Pride.

Regis is back in action on Tuesday afternoon when the Pride opens New England Collegiate Conference play with a 3:30 p.m. matchup at Becker College. Eastern Nazarene opens Commonwealth Coast Conference play on Saturday when the Lions host Curry College at 1:00 p.m.
