Regis Swim & Dive Sweeps NEISDA Weekly Awards

WESTON, Mass. – Coming off a stellar performance last Saturday, the Regis swimming and diving team received all three weekly awards from the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA), announced late Wednesday afternoon by the coaches' organization.

Adding to the GNAC Rookie of the Week honor received earlier this week, freshman Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.) was named the NEISDA Male Swimmer of the Week. After combining for three overall event victories in the double-dual meet against Simmons and Colby-Sawyer, juniors Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) and Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) were selected NEISDA Female Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively.

Pike earned two individual event victories last Saturday to help the Regis men cruise to a dual meet win over Colby-Sawyer. Pike posted a season-best time of 1:55.87 in the 200 freestyle and a time of 5:12.40 in the 500 freestyle, finishing first in both events. Thanks to his effort Saturday, Pike is now 14th in the all-time top times list for the 200 freestyle. He also finished second in the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:02.77.

Zernitsky earned the lone overall swimming event victory for the Regis women Saturday, winning the 50 butterfly in 29.04 seconds. Individually, she also finished second in the 50 freestyle by just 17/100ths of a second at 26.14 seconds. Zernitsky was also part of both relays that finished in second place, including her role as the anchor for the 200 medley relay that posted a total time of 1:58.26, just 43/100ths of a second behind Simmons's top relay squad.

McQuaid came out on top in both one-meter diving sessions Saturday. She picked up a win in the five-dive event with a score of 172.85, just 1/10th of a point ahead of Sara Manjikian of Simmons. In the six-dive event later in the meet, McQuaid compiled a score of 248.70 points, over 20 points in front of Manjikian.

Regis wraps up the regular season by hosting Elms College in a dual meet Saturday, Jan. 19, starting at 12 p.m. at the Regis Pool. Before the meet, the seven seniors on the Pride men's and women's swimming and diving team will be recognized in a short presentation.
