WESTON, Mass. – Led by a record-setting performance by diver Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) and three-event winners Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) and Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.), the Regis College women's swimming and diving team defeated Gordon College, 168-76, Saturday in a collegiate dual meet at the Regis Aquatics Center.
McQuaid once again broke her own school record in the one-meter diving event, posting a score of 238.65 over six dives, almost five full points more than the mark she posted just last week at Bridgewater State. McQuaid also compiled a five-dive score of 173.45 in the first one-meter diving session of the meet.
Boatwright and Zernitsky joined with Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) and Katherine Mariano (Newton, Mass.) to open the meet with an eight-second victory in the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:03.05. Boatwright won the 50 backstroke by one full second at 30.37 seconds, the 200 backstroke in 2:17.52, and the 500 freestyle in 6:03.73.
Zernitsky's first individual victory came in the 50 freestyle in 26.27 seconds, just 18/100ths of a second ahead of Leonard at 26.45 seconds. Zernitsky held off Gordon's Caris Lyons in the 100 freestyle by 2/10ths of a second, winning in 58.59 seconds, and then she posted the fastest time in the 50 butterfly at a season-best 28.60 seconds.
Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.) earned two event victories during the day, starting with a victory in the 1000 freestyle in 12:00.29, the best time for the Pride so far this year. Bowie also won the 200 breaststroke in 2:48.93.
In other events Saturday, Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.) led a 1-2-3 finish for the Pride in the 200 freestyle with a winning time of 2:10.38, while Julia Burke (North Andover, Mass.) posted the team's best mark this season in the 50 breaststroke, touching the wall first in 36.83 seconds. Leonard finished the 200 individual medley with the fastest time at 2:31.08.
The Pride capped the meet by posting the best time in the 200 freestyle relay, as Sutton, Alexa Lancisi (Milford, Mass.), Mallytza Ibarra Davila (Yuma, Ariz.), and Amy Collins (Hanson, Mass.) combined for a time of 1:51.91. With the victory clinched, Regis competed in the final three swimming events as exhibitions.
Lyons picked up Gordon's only event victory before the Pride changed everyone to exhibition swims, touching the wall first in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.72.
Regis (3-1) returns to the pool next Saturday, Nov. 10, for a tri-meet at Babson against the host Beavers and Norwich starting at 1 p.m.
